Poems Of Love: Only Yours

When the breeze gets colder
And the nights get longer
I’ll know I need you
Need you to hold me, kiss me, squeeze me

I believe
Nothing feels warmer than your touch
Because no other is closer to my heart

I need to hear you call my name
Call my name like you want to be inside me
Look at me like you want to possess me

And tonight, sweetheart,
Is the night I’ll be yours
Only yours.

An English clergyman by name Edward Fitzgerald loosely (very~!) translated some obscure works by a Persian poet/mathematician/astronomer/genius of many centuries ago. Fitzgerald was too modest, his efforts show the genius that the originals very sadly lack.

If (it’s a big ‘if’, I know …) if you’ve never read the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, by Fitzgerald, please try doing so—I’m sure you’ll love it.

(I’ve always said there’s far more Fitzgerald than Khayyam in Fitzgerald’s various versions, and I’ll stand by that statement.)
